Prince George Fire Centre warns of forecast, potential for wildfire activity

Aug 3, 2024 | 11:19 AM

There is potential for thunderstrorms and dry lightning this weekend in the Prince George Fire Centre.

The BC Wildfire Service said in a press release the forecast could lead to increased wildfire activity, particularly in the VanJam, Robson Valley and Fort Nelson Zones.

North and northwesterly winds forecast for Saturday could make smoke columns from active fires more visible and lead to smoke impacts in communities south of existing fires.

While Category 1 open burning, such as campfires, is currently permitted in the PGFC, it is important that everyone do their part to prevent unnecessary human-caused wildfires, according to the release.
