Man arrested for firearms offences

HOUSTON, B.C. — A man in Houston, B.C. is facing several charges following an incident involving a firearm.

RCMP say the incident occurred on August 1 at approximately 3:45 p.m. when Houston RCMP officers saw a man with a group of other men discharge a firearm into the ground while outside a local business. Officers quickly arrested the man and those with him for firearms offences.

An investigation revealed one man had an outstanding warrant and the one who fired the weapon was held in custody for a bail hearing. The other two men were released without charge.

The man held in custody was identified as Kaiz Khan and has been charged with the following offences:

  • Careless use or storage of firearm contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Carrying concealed weapon contrary to section 90(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a firearm without a license contrary to section 91(1)(a)(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a loaded restricted firearm contrary to section 95(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

“I am proud our officers and their quick response to this potentially dangerous event. They safely brought the suspect into custody in a safe manner and have removed a weapon from our streets,” says Sgt. Ryan Fillmore Houston RCMP Detachment Commander.
