PRINCE GEORGE— Update (4:15 p.m. Aug.20): Conservative Party of BC Leader John Rustad says he stands behind his candidate Rachael Weber.

He said so in an interview Tuesday afternoon with CKPG News.

“I support all of our candidates and the work that they’re doing. I’m not going to allow cancel culture to take root in this province, I think it’s done too much damage. It’s been a significant part of the left wing’s tools in terms of attacking people and going away from the real issues that are out there such as the overdoses we’ve been seeing, safe supply and decriminalization and the damage that’s done.”

Asked specifically if Weber’s social media posts on 5G concern him he, Rustad had this to say:

“So, I understand that candidates share information on things like social media, however what I look at is the work that people do and the approach that they take. And quite frankly, it’s disappointing to see both BC United and the NDP participating in cancel culture.”

Earlier: A B.C. United press release has shown that Prince George-Mackenzie B.C. Conservative candidate Rachael Weber was promoting claims on social media that 5G cell towers are “genocidal weapons” and the cause of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The posts were made in 2020 on Facebook and claimed that “EMF’s + 60ghz (5G) IS A WEAPON!”. and that 5G is linked to the spread of Coronavirus which will “mess with the absorption of oxygen in the human body”.

“There is no other way to describe the views of John Rustad’s candidate for Prince George-Mackenzie other than downright weird,” said Mike Bernier, BC United MLA for Peace River South. “Rustad must explain why he continues to recruit and promote candidates that deny science and subscribe to weird theories from the darkest corners of the internet.”

CKPG has reached out to Rachael Weber and John Rustad for comment but have not yet received a response.
