Huble Homestead wraps up season with Potato Fest

PRINCE GEORGE – As Huble Homestead Historic Site’s summer season comes to a close, visitors are invited for one last public event before the park moves to its weekends-only fall schedule. Fun and flavour collide at Potato Festival, this Sunday and Monday, September 1 and 2, where the mighty spud takes centre stage with fun for all ages, a special menu, and more.

Potato lovers will want to visit first thing to buy some of the nine varieties of heirloom potatoes that have been growing on-site in the Huble garden all summer long. Ranging from the hard-to-get Haida and Cariboo “outlaw” potatoes to the less-notable but equally-delicious Irish Cobbler and Green Mountain, these are not your average grocery store spuds. The tater theme continues through the many activities on offer throughout the weekend, such as the “dress your spud” contest, tuber themed games like hot potato and sack races, and potato stamping crafts.

Both days will be filled with heritage demonstrations including the treadle pole lathe, cheese making, ice cream, and butter making, with special demos on Sunday including sourdough bread and soap making, and pickles and natural remedies on Monday. Enjoy live music while you taste the potato-themed lunch specials, partake in the regular barbeque lunch, or try something different on Monday at the Baller Foods truck. Be sure to drop into the General Store for a sweet treat and browse the summer-end store sale.

Huble Homestead Historic Site is open 10:00-5:00 daily until September 2, after which the park is open on weekends only until Thanksgiving for guided tours, lunch, and shopping in the General Store.
