Doctors recommend ensuring your childs vaccine are up to date now that school is in session
PRINCE GEORGE—Backpacks, books, and binders all these should be on everyone’s back to shool list. However, doctors are recommending adding one more item, your childs vaccinations.
Third Avenue pharmacist Brianna Pallot says that routine vaccinations take place in both grade six and grade nine, as well as before kindergarten entry. She adds that “making sure kids are vaccinated against vaccine preventable diseases is super important”.
If you are unsure of when to update your childs vaccinations, Pallot says the health units that enter the schools will have the childs up to date information. If it shows that your child missed a dose it is never too late to start again.
“There is ways to catch up depending on how many doses have been received in the past,” explains Pallot. “There is different scenarios, so it’s always good to talk to a health care professional to figure out whether or not you need to restart the series entirely or just get one dose. It kind of depends on the vaccine and scenario for each individual patient.”
