Sep 11, 2024 | 11:23 AM

PRINCE GEORGE—Overlooking the City of Prince George Connaught Hill Park will be getting a series of enhancements in the coming weeks.

The project is looking to improve peoples overall enjoyment of the park by focusing on the large flower bed. The goal of the City is to make the space a picturesque location, ideal for hosting weddings and special events.

The full list of construction and improvements to the park are as follows:

  • New stairs and retaining walls.
  • A concrete path for easier access.
  • A dedicated drop-off zone.
  • Installation of railings for safety.
  • New electrical outlets.
  • A concrete pad that will contain a pergola structure and planters, designed to serve as a scenic backdrop for gatherings and ceremonies.

The City expects that the structural portion of the project will take ten weeks to complete. The park will be partially open to the public during the construction, although the work sites will be closed for safety. The landscaping will follow in Spring 2025, ensuring the park is ready for the next season.

“Connaught Hill Park is a cherished space for our community, and these upgrades will enhance accessibility and enjoyment for all visitors,” says Mayor Simon Yu. “This new area will provide a beautiful and functional venue for weddings, celebrations, and other special events. It’s a reflection of our commitment to maintaining and improving our heritage green spaces.”

The total budget for the Connaught Hill Park Enhancement project is $385,000 and has been funded through the federal governments Community Works Fund.
