PRINCE GEORGE— Murphy Abraham will carry the NDP banner in Nechako Lakes in this fall’s election.

The announcement was made to the social media platform X

A former Chief for Lake Babine Nation, Abraham helped secure a $50 million funding agreement from the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations. Abraham previously spoke on this funding agreement in February, stating that it will allow Lake Babine to move forward towards self governance through building a public sector. He added that it will also strengthen the remote communities of Wit’at and Tachet by building a community centre for cultural events.

“The Foundation Agreement is Lake Babine’s roadmap to independence from the devastating impacts of colonialism,” said Abraham. “For many years, Lake Babine has been building relationships with the provincial and federal governments to develop partnerships that will strengthen the future of our communities and the next generation,”

As for his goals as an NDP Candidate Abraham seeks to build housing, improve healthcare, and make life more affordable.

“People in my community know that we’re facing big challenges. And the BC NDP is ready to take those challenges on,” said Abraham. “David Eby’s BC NDP team is building homes for people, hiring doctors and nurses, and putting money back in your pocket. John Rustad, for his part, has a record of costs and cuts. We can’t afford the risk.”

Murphy Abraham will be running against BC Conservative leader John Rustad. The provincial election is set for October 19, 2024.
