NORTHERN B.C.— Douglas Gook is joining the Green Party as a candidate for Nechako Lakes. He will be battling BC Conservative leader John Rustad and NDP candidate Murphy Abraham in the October 19 election.

Gook says that he was inspired by his adult children to be an activist for economic, social, and environmental justice. Adding, that he wants to ensure that another tailing pond breach like the on at Mount Polley back in 2014 does not happen.

Gook is a self-directed student of ecological commerce and has done post-secondary studies with EcoForestry Institute. He is a director of the BC Environmental Network and Spirit Dance Cooperative Community. Through Silvequus Selection Systems he works with First Nations, environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGO), and communities to achieve greater implementation of natural selection foresty. As well as being one of the founders of the Cariboo Horse Loggers Association back in 1980, Gook seeks to transform the “current corporate industrial fibre high-grading example of forest exploitation into a natural selection forestry based model.”

Gooks father ran for federal office as part of the Social Credit party and credits his dad’s teaching for his support of reestablishing citizen control over the Bank of Canada and money supply.
