PRINCE GEORGE – After a three-month pause, the regional district has teamed up with Recycle BC and re-opened three transfer stations. For the first time, the stations are capable of accepting various materials.

Foam, Soft plastics, and glass have now been added to the list of recyclable materials. There were limited places where residents could take foam and soft plastics, but opening these transfer stations created more options.

According to the general manager of Environment Service, Regional District Fraser Fort George Laura Zapotichny, many recycled products are stored within the province.

β€œThe plastic gets recycled and made into new products at Merlyn Plastics in Vancouver. We know that there is a glass operation outside of Quesnel that reuses glass.”

The regional district is making plans to open more sites to accept materials.

The layout of the Quinn Street Recycling Depot has been updated. Residents should follow the new signage and directions from staff when visiting the location. The Regional District anticipates high volumes at the site as residents are eager to take advantage of the expanded services.
