Opportunity knocks for Cougars with nine players still at NHL Camps

PRINCE GEORGE— Just one day away from the home and season opener at the CN Centre, the Cougars will have to start the season shorthanded. Though fifth year Carlin Dezainde returned from camp with the Boston Bruins earlier this week, there are still nine players attending NHL Camps.

“It’s a little bit unfortunate that the guys aren’t back, it’s pretty much half of our team,” said Head Coach and GM Mark Lamb at practice Wednesday. “We’re raising a banner tomorrow night and the guys that were a big part of it aren’t going to be there.”

Despite not having a good chunk of the team during the opening weekend, it gives the young players a chance to gain valuable experience.

“It’s a special opportunity for them to see what the players have done in the past and that’s where they want to be. The experience that they’re getting in a regular season game, home opener and raising a banner, it’s a lot,” said Lamb on his young players opportunity.

We’ll see how the Cougars young squad does this weekend as they get started with a back-to-back against the Spokane Chiefs.
