Independent candidate Coralee Oakes calls for establishment of vet school at UNBC

PRINCE GEORGE — Independent candidate for Prince George-North Cariboo Coralee Oakes is calling for the establishment of a veterinarian school at UNBC.

“Today, you cannot get a DVM degree (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) in B.C. That is unacceptable. Northern B.C. needs Large Animal Vets that can assist our ranchers. The notion that Canada’s 3^rd largest province cannot produce a single veterinarian is an embarrassment. Today, there are only five universities in Canada that can grant a DVM,” said Oakes.

The five universities are:

• University of PEI
• University of Montreal
• Ontario Veterinary College (Guelph)
• University of Saskatchewan
• University of Calgary

UBC only offers undergraduate studies in veterinary medicine.
