PRINCE GEORGE — Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Prince George and surrounding areas.

The national forecaster warns westerly winds will gust up to 90 kilometres per hour Friday in the Lakes District, Chilcotin, Stuart-Nechako, Prince George, McGregor, Williston, and the B.C. South Peace River.

“An intense low pressure system will cross northern BC today. Moderate to strong southeast winds ahead of this system are expected to continue early this morning,” says Environment Canada.

“As the storm moves inland today, a period of very strong westerly winds will develop in its wake. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches. Motorists, especially in high profile vehicles, may expect hazardous driving conditions on highways subject to strong cross winds.”
