City crews to begin removing the playground at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park
PRINCE GEORGE— It’s your final chance to play on the original playground equipment at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park. City crews will begin removing the equipment next week to make room for the new playground.
The City says the current playground, that was installed in 2000, no longer meets safety standards and has to be replaced. The removal has been scheduled before the ground freezes to ensure the site is ready for construction of the new playground in spring.
During the removal the area will be fenced off with signs posted to inform the public. In the following weeks, the holes from the existing equipment will be filled and ground penetrating radar work will take place.
The new playground, designed by Canadian Recreation Solutions, pays tributes to local landmarks including the Little Prince Train Engine, Mr. PG, Ancient Trees meant to represent Chun T’oh Whudujut Provincial Park, and Fraser and Nechako river signs. There will also be a vintage fire truck feature in honour of the original play structure. The City notes that the design is still in preliminary stages and could change.
