NDP wins British Columbia election

SURREY —Update: The NDP appears to have won enough seats to form a majority government in British Columbia.
The Canadian Press is projecting that Premier David Eby’s NDP has won at least 46 seats, with one seat very close. That race is in Surrey-Guildford, where the NDP leads by 18 votes (as of 4 p.m. on October 28).  If the NDP hold onto the seat, it would give them 47 seats, enough for a razor thin majority. The BC Conservatives have won 44 seats and the BC Greens, two seats.
Earlier:: As of 3 p.m., the NDP lead by 17 votes. There are fewer than 30 votes left to count.

Earlier: As of 2 p.m., the NDP has taken an 18 vote lead. There are just 43 ballots left to count.

Earlier: As of 1 p.m., the NDP are leading by nine votes over the BC Conservatives. At noon, they lead by 14 votes.

Earlier: The NDP has taken the lead in the Surrey-Guildford riding.

They now lead by 14 votes. If the NDP holds on to the lead, they will win 47 seats, enough to govern the province with a majority. The Conservatives would have 44 seats and the BC Greens 2.

As of noon on Monday, October 28, the vote count is as follows as per Elections BC in Surrey-Guildford:

  • Gary Begg, NDP: 8,843
  • Honveer Singh Randhawa, Conservative Party: 8,829
  • Manjeet Singh Sahota, BC Green Party: 816
  • Kabir Qurban Independent: 369
