Men’s and women’s Timberwolves basketball teams drop first of two weekend games against the Vikes

VICTORIA — The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) Timberwolves men’s and women’s basketball teams fell to the University of Victoria Vikes on the road Friday (Nov. 8).

On the women’s side, after outscoring the Vikes 23-20 after the first quarter, the Timberwolves found themselves trailing 48-36 at half after a rough second quarter. The T-Wolves scratched and clawed back but were edged by the Vikes 73-69. The Vikes made 27 of their 44 free throw attempts while the T-Wolves made one of two.

Fourth-year forward Sveta Boykova led the Timberwolves in scoring with 20 points on eight-for-15 shooting, including four-for-six from three.

It wasn’t as close on the men’s side with the Timberwolves falling to the reigning conference champion Vikes 102-48. Third-year forward Evgeny Baukin led the T-Wolves with 15 points on six-for-11 shooting. He added four rebounds and one assist.
