PRINCE GEORGE— The Prince George Alpine Ski Club held their annual ski and snowboard swap on Saturday at the St. Giles Presbyterian Church. The event was a fundraiser to help the non-profit organization provide alpine ski training in Northern B.C.

“The ski community is a bit smaller here in Prince George, so events like this allow the whole community to come together and create a bit more awareness about the sport,” said Head Coach Nathan Romanin at the ski swap.

“This is for the community, but it also helps us. It gets people to know us a bit better and also if kids are interested in joining our club, learning to ski, learning to race and enjoying the winter months,” said Vice President of the club Kristi Francis.

Fundraiser’s like this are integral support for the coaches and athletes to thrive in following their passion for the sport.

“We have a firewood fundraiser, sandbagging fundraisers, some pub nights. This is one of our more fun and enjoyable fundraisers. Our fundraisers are crucial to keeping our programs running,” said Francis on the importance of these events.

The ski club offers racing development programs for kids ages six to 18. It includes their Nancy Greene program for children 6 to 12 years old. Then they move into the alpine program from ages 12 to 18, to really start developing their racing skills.
