PRINCE GEORGE— Prince George native “The Prospector” Wes Barker has made it through the first two rounds of Canadian wrestling legend Jacques Rougeau’s Lutte Academie. Barker has qualified for the final of an event with some of the best wrestlers in Canada.

“Every round, the quarterfinals, the semifinals, and now the finals, I’ve gone in with the mindset that this is the fight of my life. That there may never be another opportunity that could be bigger,” said Barker on Sunday.

The four winner’s of the event (two male and two female) will receive $10,000 and a week of training at Bandidos Gym in Mexico City and a week of training at Kyoshu Pro-Wrestling Japan.

While Barker has been training for two and a half years, he will be competing in the final less than two years after his first match in the ring. He attributes a lot of his relatively quick rise in the Canadian wrestling scene to his Northern B.C roots.

“I’m always a Prince George kid at heart. The reason why I can get to those places and get myself into those positions, to have those big fights, is because I’m from here. I think that I go into the ring with more grit than someone who’s not from here. I think I go into the ring tougher and with a better understanding of what it takes to win a fight,” said The Prospector about being from Prince George.

Barker will compete for the grand prize on Saturday November 16th in Montreal.
