VICTORIA — It wasn’t the road weekend the UNBC Timberwolves basketball teams were hoping for as they played the University of Victoria Vikes in the second half of a double header on the Island.

Saturday night, the Timberwolves women’s team traded leads back-and-forth with the Vikes before they were ultimately beaten 70-60, giving them a 1-3 record early in the Canada West season.

The Russian tandem of Sveta Boykova (13) and Viktoriia Filatova (12) combined for 25 points while the Vikes were led by Abigail Becker’s 18 points.

In men’s action, UNBC is still searching for their first win of the season, as they dropped a 92-62 decision Saturday.

Evgeny Baukin led the way for the TWolves with 13 points, while Justin Sunga and Josh Gillespie each had 11 points. Victoria were led by a 35 point effort from Diego Maffia.

The Vikes took both games Friday night (Nov. 9) meaning their men’s team is now 4-0 while the women are 3-1.

Next up for the TWolves is another road double header in Regina against the Cougars. The women play on Nov. 14 and 15, while the men play on Nov. 15 and 16.

Their next home game will be against the UBC Okanagan Heat the following weekend, Nov. 22 and 23.
