PRINCE GEORGE — Koehn Ziemmer had a natural hat-trick while Borya Valis had two goals and two assists to lead the Prince George Cougars to a 7-1 rout of the Vancouver Giants in the first of two games during Community Heroes Weekend at the CN Centre.

Joshua Ravensbergen also played his part in front of a sellout crowd of 6,038 Saturday (Nov. 9) as he stopped 29 of the 30 shots for his tenth win of the WHL season.

Valis got the Cougars on the board after just 14 seconds before goals from Terik Parascak and Lee Shurgot – his first in the WHL – had PG up 3-0 less than seven minutes into the game.

The Giants only goal came from Cameron Schmidt at 12:33 of the first period. The WHL goals leader made it a 3-1 game before Ziemer’s heroics and Valis’ second of the night ensured the Cougars would come away with the lopsided win.

The Cougars sit second in the WHL’s Western Conference with a 10-4-3-2 record, while the Giants are seventh with a 9-5-2-0 record.

The two teams will rematch at the CN Centre this afternoon (Nov. 10) with the puck drop scheduled for 2 p.m.
