Nov 14, 2024 | 7:51 AM

B-C’s police watchdog says it’s investigating a man’s death shortly after he was taken into custody in Prince George last week.
A statement from the Independent Investigations Office says RCMP reported that officers arrested the man for intoxication and took him to their detachment.
The office says the man was found unresponsive in his cell during a routine check later that night, and he was taken to hospital, where he was in critical condition.
The watchdog says it learned on Monday that the man had died in hospital, and it’s investigating the potential role of police actions or inaction. The IIO is asking any person with video footage or relevant information about the incident to please contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
