PRINCE GEORGE — The UNBC Timberwolves will be going into the Canada West holiday break with big smiles on their faces.

Saturday night at Brownridge Court, the UNBC women’s basketball team recorded their first win steak of the season when they beat UBCO Heat 68-67 to improve to 3-5.

Viktoriia Filatova scored the game-winning layup with 14 seconds left to play to finish with 18 points, while Sveta Boykova’s 20 points and 13 rebounds gave her her second double-double of the weekend.

Saturday was also a massive day for the UNBC men’s basketball team as they beat the Heat 83-72 to record their first win of the Canada West season.

UNBC led 65-56 after three quarters, and while UBCO cut that nine point deficit to six early in the fourth, the TWolves defense and timely shooting helped them pull away for a famous win.

Justin Sunga (25) and Evgeny Baukin (24) combined for 49 points on the night, as the TWolves improve to 1-7.

The TWolves will be back in Canada West action on Jan. 10, 2025 against the Fraser Valley Cascades.

It’s not the end of basketball action this semester though as the UNBC men will host the University of Calgary Dinos in pair of exhibition games at Brownridge Court next weekend, Nov. 29 and 30.
