PRINCE GEORGE—The Prince George Regional Highway Rescue Society (PGRHRS) is a volunteer organization that helps save lives but when a truck went out of commission ahead of the winter season. The Highway Rescue needed the communities help to repair the trucks head gasket.

“We’ve been noticing signs of the truck needing repairs about a month ago. We noticed that there was a little bit of overheating with the engine,” says Steven Silva, the public relations director at PGRHRS. “That’s when we discovered that it needed a new head gasket.”

A plea for funding was made on GoFundMe with the repairs estimated at $10,000. However, less than 24 hours later they received word that Rescue 12 will be repaired free of charge.

Napa Auto Parts will be supplying the parts for the repair. Meanwhile, Wolverine Workwear will help by providing funding. O’Neill’s automotive is lending their expertise to repair the truck. O’Neill’s Automotive adds that their happy to provide the repairs so the PGHRHS can get back to saving lives.

“You definitely want somebody with the right skillset when working on that kind of engine,” explains Regan O’Neill, the owner of O’Neill’s Automotive. “It’s a very common repair. I’m actually Ford certified as a power stroke technician and I’ve done many of them.”

The donations from the GoFundMe have been refunded but the volunteer organization is always accepting donations.

“We received lower funding from the government, and we’re expected to be out of this building by next year. The property owner decided to sell the property. So, it’s been a lot of hardships this year, and it just it’s nice to see the community come together and give some hope with this vehicle being down and people giving money for that,”

Rescue 12 is expected to be in service early December. Just in time for the unfortunately busy holiday season.
