“It’s disgusting:” John Rustad blasts Premier David Eby

PRINCE GEORGE – It’s safe to say BC Conservative Party Leader John Rustad is unhappy with Premier David Eby, amid a noticeable lack of a Fall legislative session that Eby promised shortly after getting elected.

“It’s disappointing that David Eby seems to focus on giving his MLAs big bonuses and wage increases without actually dealing with the work that needs to be done in BC,” he said.

Among other things, Eby promised during the campaign to give British Columbians tax relief to the tune of $500-$1000. However, with the earliest legislative session being announced for February 18, it appears the tax relief will have to wait.

“This is one of the things that I think is really disgusting. When you see what David Eby has done, giving out all these raises to all of his people within his group, having such a massive cabinet. It’s ridiculous,” Rustad said.

“We have a massive deficit in this province. We need to be fiscally responsible. We need to be reducing those costs, not increasing it, as David has done. And then to break his promise. He was very clear during the election campaign, saying this was relief that will get out to people right away. Well, maybe his definition right away is different from mine,” he continued.

While Eby’s unusually large cabinet and pay raises, alongside broken promises, were certainly issues Rustad had, they weren’t all.

“We now have the federal government saying they’re going to cut GST. Other provinces are cutting their provincial taxes. Why aren’t we doing the same? This is something that we could be having in the legislature and debating,” he said.
