The Cougars hit the road for a back-to-back Alberta road trip

PRINCE GEORGE— The Cougars begin their weekend back-to-back in Alberta tonight against the Red Deer Rebels. This weekend will be the only time the cats face of against the Rebels and Oil Kings in the regular season this year.

“Red deer, when you look at them on paper they’re not a real big scoring team or offensive team, but they can beat you in other ways. They play really great away from the puck, with a lot of grit and speed,” said Cougars General Manager and Head Coach Mark Lamb on Saturday’s match-up.

“When you go into Edmonton, they got some more skill and it’s just a different team. We just take it one game at a time and it’s fun to get out in Alberta and play a couple games,” said Lamb.

With this weekend marking their only trip to Edmonton, this means a homecoming for a few Prince George rookies.

“I talked to my parents a lot about it. It’s an exciting time of the year to go back home and play hockey. I’m just really excited to go showcase and have fun and hopefully get the W,” said Cougars forward Kayden Lemire on playing in front of his family and friends.

Both Lemire and fellow rookie Patrick Sopiarz are from the Edmonton area and played the past couple of seasons together for OHA Edmonton prep in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.

“I’m just glad we got to come up here together. We’ve been playing with each other for quite a bit, so it’s nice to come to here together, have fun, play hockey, and do what we love,” said Lemire on continuing to play with Sopiarz.
