Information checkpoints in Farwell Canyon linked to Chilcotin landslide to come down ‘soon’
WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) says it will soon disband the information checkpoints that were put in place the inform residents about ongoing dangers linked to a July 31 landslide on the Chilcotin River.
“Community information officers from Tl’esqox and Yuneŝit’in have been stationed in this area since the Chilcotin River landslide occurred,” a statement from the CRD said. “They have been present to inform people entering the area of the continued risks in the area following the initial landslide.”
The CRD says it doesn’t mean the dangers have stabilized completely, and they’re asking people in the area to continue to be careful.
“There is an area of high-risk for further landslides along the riverbanks near Farwell Canyon Bridge,” the statement added. “A highly visible fault line on the riverbank south of Farwell Canyon Bridge is of immediate concern, and the area below it is not safe for public access.”
