EDMONTON — The Prince George Cougars will be coming back home from Alberta with zero points from two games this weekend.

Debutant Parker Snell, 16, stopped all 29 shots he faced for his first WHL shutout as the Edmonton Oil Kings blanked the Cougars 5-0 at Rogers Place Saturday (Nov. 30) night.

It’s the third successive loss for the Cougars, and the second consecutive defeat at the hands of a 16-year-old rookie goaltender after Peyton Shore led the Red Deer Rebels to a 3-2 win Friday night.

The loss drops Prince George to second in the BC Division, two points back of the Victoria Royals who picked up three of a possible four points this weekend.

The Cougars, who now sit fifth in the Western Conference, have a game in hand over the Royals.

Adam Jecho’s first period goal at 7:46 stood up as the game winner for the Oil Kings. Blake Fiddler, Gracyn Sawchyn, Gavin Hodnett and Cole Miller also scored past Cooper Michaluk, who faced 32 shots in a losing effort.

The Cougars will look to bounce back at CN Centre this Friday, Dec. 6, against the last place Regina Pats. They’ll also take on the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday in their annual Teddy Bear Toss game.

That game against the Blazers is the Cougars final home game of 2024 as they’ll play seven consecutive road games to end the year.
