QUESNEL — (UPDATE Dec. 2, 10:30 a.m.): Quesnel RCMP say a 37-year-old local man was killed in a crash on Highway 97 Friday night.

Police say the crash between a northbound pickup truck and a southbound semi-truck happened around 4:24 p.m., south of Cinema.

“Sadly, the drive, and only occupant, a 37-year-old man from Quesnel succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” RCMP Sgt. Clay Kronebusch said.

“The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.”

The highway was closed for about nine hours after the crash to allow police to investigate.

It is not clear what caused the crash, though police previously said that the roads were covered with ice and snow at the time because of the snowy weather. Visibility was also said to be poor at the time.

Mounties are urging caution while on the highways during times of bad weather. They’re also asking people to ensure they’re driving to the conditions.
