VANDERHOOF — The Nechako Lakes School District (SD91) has hired its new superintendent of schools.

It’s Anita McClinton, who will begin her new position on January 20, 2025. McClinton currently serves as the Director of Instruction in the Cariboo-Chilcotin School District.

According to an SD91 news release, McClinton’s “extensive experience spans various roles, including teacher, vice-principal, and principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.”

She’s also “led diverse areas of public education, including Indigenous education, French programming, human resources, career education, professional learning, and community connections. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Simon Fraser University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Calgary.”

“In selecting Anita for this role, the Board of Education recognized the outstanding leadership, focus on student success, and stakeholder relationships that she has offered to other districts, and we believe that she is the right candidate for continuing the excellent work our staff has been doing in all aspects of our 2020-2025 Strategic Plan,” says Board Chair Dave Christie.

Prior to her current job in the Cariboo-Chilcotin School District, McClinton served as superintendent of schools in the Prince George School District from 2020 until she was terminated by the SD57 board of Education in January 2022 – a move she claimed was in bad faith. She later filed a civil claim against two former trustees – a case which has since been settled out of court. Another civil claim against School District 57’s Board of Education is still before the courts.
