Impaired driver arrested after fighting an RCMP officer

PRINCE GEORGE—On December 1, 2024, just after 2:00 a.m., Prince George RCMP’s Traffic Services unit conducted a traffic stop in a parking lot off the 2200-block of the Hart Highway. Police say the driver, and lone occupant, of a pick up truck was exhibiting signs of intoxication and was being investigated for impaired driving.

When the driver provided a breath sample the Approved Screening Device registered a “warn” reading. At one point during the stop, the driver began physically fighting the police, in response an officer pepper sprayed the driver. The driver was arrested without further incident and transported to the detachments cell block where he received treatment for the pepper spray. The driver was released later that day with a three-day driver’s license suspension and his vehicle was impounded for three days. One police officer received a minor injury in the fight.

“This is a reminder, now that the holiday season is upon us, to look for other means of transportation if you are going to be consuming alcohol or cannabis. A great alternative is Operation Red Nose Prince George, which is available for drivers on weekends throughout December,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP. “Phoning a friend, calling a cab or waiting for public transportation: all of these are terrific options if you find yourself celebrating more than you intended.”
