PRINCE GEORGE— Along with making a coaching change last Monday, Mike Hawes, the Spruce Kings General Manager has been busy making additions to the roster.

Last Tuesday, they signed forward Nicolas Papineau after spending three seasons in the Central Canada Hockey League, most recently as the captain of the Nepean Raiders.

“Paps (Papineau) is going to bring some experience down the middle of the ice for us, and a ton of speed. He’s going to chip in offensively, for sure, but he’s gonna be a guy that you can rely on in all three facets of the game,” said Kings Interim Head Coach Brad Tesink on the new forward addition.

Papineau got his first weekend under the belt with the Kings and wasted no time making an impact, putting up two goals and four points during the his first two games for the club.

“I’d say I was quite nervous for my first game, then I kind of picked it up from there. I got more comfortable and got a couple of nice bounces and found some chemistry out there,” said Papineau in his Spruce Kings debut weekend.

While the Quebec native certainly helped the teams offensive production, they allowed eight goals on Saturday, prompting Hawes to bring in a reinforcement between the pipes.

On Monday, the Kings acquired netminder Colin Reay from the Vernon Vipers. Reay spent the past two seasons in Vernon, producing a record of 14-9-4, a 2.85 GAA and a .914 SV%.

“I can bring some leadership qualities. I’ve been playing junior hockey for quite some time now and I can help mentor greener (Ryder Green), the younger goalie here. He’s been great,” said Reay on what he brings to the Kings. “Just bring that experience, competitiveness and that will to win.”

The Alberta native will hope to get his first win for the club this weekend, in the teams final road trip of 2024.
