PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars have acquired defenceman Corbin Vaughan from the Regina Pats in exchange for defenceman Ephram McNutt and a second-round selection in the 2025 WHL Prospect’s Draft.

Vaughan, 18, has four goals and 14 points in 98 WHL games with Regina. He has three assists in 13 games this season, though he hasn’t played since Nov. 10 after he was suspended by the Pats for a “hockey-related matter.”

“I am excited for a new start, to make new relationships, and to do whatever I can to help the team win,” Vaughan said, in a statement. “It’s a first-class organization that I have heard nothing but good things about and I cannot wait to get going.”

“I like to think I am a very reliable defenceman in all zones. I love to hit and play the game hard. I can add some offence if the opportunity presents itself, and I love to fire up the crowd.”

A second round pick of the Pats in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft, the Merritt native spent time at Los Angeles Kings camp this summer.

“[Corbin] is a throwback player that plays the game hard and physical with good puck skills and skating ability,” Cougars Head Coach and GM Mark Lamb said.

“He will be a great fit for our team.”

McNutt, 19, leaves the Cougars having put up six goals and 33 points in 134 games with the team.

Vaughan could make his Cougars debut on Wednesday, Dec. 11, against the Tri-City Americans as the Cougars play the first of seven consecutive games on the road.

Sunday’s trade comes almost a month after Corbin’s twin brother, Jaxsin, was traded from Regina to the WHL-leading Everett Silvertips.

The two brothers could play against each other on Jan. 18, 2025 when the Silvertips host the Cougars at Angel of the Winds Arena.
