CNC is enlisting four-legged therapists to help with school stress

PRINCE GEORGE— The stress of school life can be hard to overcome but thanks to the help of one local hero, the students at CNC can get a small respite. His name is Sam the therapy dog and he visits CNC once a week to ensure those students have a moment to relax.

According to the Mayo Clinic dogs are a great way reduce stress, decrease anxiety, and combat loneliness. Corinne Little, Sam’s handler, adds the reception has been fantastic and that somedays she not able to sit down before people come and say hello to Sam.

“I’ve got towels to dry his feet and treats and toys and all sorts of stuff,” says Corinne. “So, usually I pick a spot but today I didn’t have to. I just was right at the door and people were meeting me right there.”

In discussing the reception, Corinne notes that some students have had to leave their dogs and this allows them to get a small taste of home.

Sam visits CNC most Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
