CMHA asks for your generosity as Christmas approaches

Dec 13, 2024 | 2:33 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Northern BC Branch is in its last week of its “Gift of Hope” program, and it’s asking the community for more donations as Christmas draws closer.

“We provide support for people suffering from mental health, and Christmas can be very lonely for people in this category. What we are doing with this is to provide support for them and to give them hope and comfort, just to let them know that we care about them and that we are with them,” said the CMHA Northern BC’s Administrative Assistant/ Volunteer Coordinator Grace Lekwauwa.

The “Gift of Hope” program delivers gifts and goods to people in the CMHA’s programs who may not receive gifts or are in need of support. Among other items, the CMHA is asking for donations of:

  • Warm clothing
  • Socks
  • Men’s underwear
  • Blankets
  • Hygiene items
  • Gift cards
  • Toys/gifts.

While the benefits of receiving goods is clear, Lekwauwa adds it’s about much more than just giving people gifts, its about letting people know they’re not alone, they matter, and they have people that care about them. Christmas can be lonely for some, and for a holiday with a big emphasis on family and community, the CMHA says the act of giving gifts can bring people together.

You can donate items to the CMHA building in Prince George located at 1152 3rd Avenue between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or make financial donations in person or at its website. The deadline to donate is December 19.
