Spruce Kings prepare for annual Drop the Gloves and Sock it to ’em game

PRINCE GEORGE— The Spruce Kings are at home for their final weekend before the Christmas break, as they welcome the Langley Rivermen for a Friday, Saturday back-to-back.

The Kings final home game before the Christmas break is on Saturday and it’s their annual Drop the Gloves and Sock it to ’em game.

“It’s a huge weekend for the standings, especially to climb up some ranks and get some points here,” said Kings captain Linden Makow. “The Sock it to ’em Drop the Gloves is pretty special. We normally have a pretty good crowd for it.”

“It’s a big game for not only players, but for our organization and our city. We take lots of pride in showing up and having a good performance for the city,” said Quesnel native and Spruce Kings forward, Carter Hesselgrave.

Fans are encouraged to bring warm winter clothing including toques, scarves, gloves, or socks in bags and toss them on the ice when the Spruce Kings score their first goal. All donations will be given to St. Vincent de Paul and food donations will also be accepted at the door.

Along with the exciting event this weekend, it will also be the first games behind the bench for Associate Coach Taylor Harnett.

“It’s a bonus that the first game that I’m going to be on the bench is in our own building. I’ve watched this league from afar and done my homework on Prince George and heard how great the fans are and how tough this building could be to play in,” said Harnett on kicking off his Kings career at Kopar Memorial Arena.

The Spruce Kings first game is at 7 PM on Friday, followed by their annual Drop the Gloves and Sock it to ’em game at 6 PM this Saturday.
