PORTLAND — Borya Valis scored the lone goal for the Prince George Cougars, who were beaten 4-1 by the Portland Winterhawks Friday (Dec. 13) night.

Goals from Kayd Ruedig – his first in the WHL – and Josh Zakreski had the Hawks up 2-0 just past the nine minute mark of the opening period before Valis struck.

The Denver native’s 16th goal of the season at 11:55 made it a 2-1 game at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Zakreski then went on to complete his hat-trick with goals around the 10 minute mark in both the second and third periods. He was named first star on the night, as Portland swept the season series against Prince George four games to none.

Joshua Ravensbergen turned aside 30 of 34 shots in a losing effort that saw the Cougars win streak end at three games. Ondrej Stebetek stopped 39 of 40 shots for the Winterhawks.

Prince George drops to 16-9-3-2 on the season, though they remain in second place in the Western Conference with 37 points in 30 games.

The Cougars will continue on the road in the U.S. as they gear up for a 6:00 p.m. game against the Spokane Chiefs Saturday night.
