Spruce Kings make up ground on Clippers

PRINCE GEORGE— The Spruce Kings opened up the second half of the BCHL season grabbing three of a possible four points this past weekend at home.

In game one on Saturday (Dec. 28), the Spruce Kings jumped out to an early two-goal lead over the Nanaimo Clippers thanks to tallies by Brock Cummings and Carter Hesselgrave.

The Kings would continue to lead by a pair, three separate times in the game, but after a lucky bounce of the mask of Luke Lavery, the Clippers forced overtime with less than a minute left in regulation.

In the extra frame, Cummings would give the puck up at the Nanaimo blueline and Cole Lonsdale took it the other way, squeaking the OT winner past Ryder Green to complete his hat trick and the Clippers comeback.

In game two, Brogan McNeil opened the scoring in the first for the home side and they didn’t look back, cruising to a 4-1 victory.

Dylan Johnson, acquired by the Kings last week, made his debut between the pipes on Sunday (Dec. 29) and stopped 27 of 28 shots he faced to help Prince George wrap up the weekend with a win.

Next up, they begin 2025 on the road in Surrey and Chilliwack.
