Looking back: Thank you for a great 2024

It’s truly hard to sum up 2024 for our CKPG Today Show, a calendar year filled with so many memorable moments in our region both on-air and off-air.

This show is built to celebrate and champion local people and organizations with one key three-letter word involved in every interview or feature you see: fun. We reached a new high of over 750 features aired in 2024, in case you were wondering that’s a staggering total of 89 hours, 49 minutes, and 20 seconds. Imagine that non-stop TV marathon!

If you were drawing up a roadmap from the year that was, it would include nearly 6500 kilometres which includes places like the historic town of Barkerville, Quesnel, Williams Lake, and beautiful Mackenzie which even included a trip to the top of Morfee Mountain. It’s amazing to look back where we’ve gotten the chance to go, and the best part is that there’s so many interesting places we have yet to discover and stories we’re looking forward to sharing. We can’t wait for what’s in store!

We debuted a new theme song, a re-designed home for the show in our CKPG TV Studios, and launched a number of new features like Flashback Friday, Coffee with Caden, and a bunch more that probably made you think, “Wow, they actually thought of that?” (Spoiler: we did, and we’re proud of it).

What you probably don’t know though is the behind the scenes work that makes all of this happen. I may be biased, but we have the most amazing team and I’m so thankful for it. Whether it’s Producer Zach Dallas behind the lens, Technical Director Alex Kassies in the studio, our boss Dave Barry, or the rest of our operation downtown Prince George who give us the chance to do what we do.

One of the best parts of this job, though? Chatting with you folks in the community. Whether it’s a quick conversation at events, on the street, or in the grocery store, it’s these small, funny, and often sweet moments that remind me just how special this place is. Seriously, there’s a lot of “small world” moments that make me go, “Wait, how do we know each other again?” But it’s all part of the charm of living in the north.

Just remember, this show is just as much yours as it is ours here at CKPG, whether it’s a simple idea in-person, a message through our social media, or an email, we look forward to hearing about where you think we should go next!

I want to wrap this up with a bit of a self-reflection, when I took the job as Host of the CKPG Today Show back in July 2023, I had big hopes and dreams for what this little 22-minute show could become and I am so proud of what is it today. Trust me when I say, if you’re reading this then you’re a big part of it. Getting the chance to wake up every morning with the opportunity to do this job, by the way it doesn’t feel like one, is a dream come true for more reasons than I can count.

Would you believe me if I said there was still plenty where that came from? Well, it’s true we can’t wait to see where 2025 takes us and I’ll give you a hint we already have lots planned to bring fun back to your screen at 12:30, 3:30, 6, or 11:30 on weekdays.
