Over-ripe avocados and too much cologne: Top 10 weirdest 9-1-1 calls for 2024

Dec 31, 2024 | 3:22 PM

PRINCE GEORGE—E-Comm 9-1-1 has released the top ten reasons to not call 9-1-1 in 2024. While the calls are often humourous they do put others at risk which is why the dispatcher is reminding everyone to leave their line open for emergencies.

“There’s a lot of risk that comes with improper use of the emergency lines because of the nature of our job here. Seconds count, Right? So, we want to make sure that every second that we can use to save somebody’s life is accounted for,” says Kuzi Mujakachi, a police dispatcher.

E-comm 9-1-1’s 2024 top ten reason to not call is:

  1. Their neighbour was wearing too much cologne
  2. The dry cleaners stained their shirt
  3. McDonald’s wouldn’t open their doors
  4. They wanted directions to a 24/7 Shoppers Drug Mart
  5. Complaining the power was out
  6. Requesting technical support
  7. The box of 38 avocados they purchased were rotten
  8. They left their phone in an Uber
  9. Requesting help removing a wasp nest
  10. There was a domesticated-looking bunny in the park

If you have a non-emergency issue you can reach out to the PG Fire Department non-emergency line at 250-561-7664. The RCMP’s non-emergency line is 250-561-3300.

E-comm 9-1-1 says that their line should be used for emergencies such as an active risk to life, or a crime in progress.

If you do accidentally call 9-1-1, don’t hang up. Stay on the line to let them know you’re okay.
