SURREY B.C. — The Prince George Spruce Kings struck first, but then gave up four in the third period, in a 4-1 defeat to the Surrey Eagles Friday (Jan. 3) night.

Will Moore opened the scoring for the Kings with the only goal of the second period as Prince George led 1-0 after 40 minutes of hockey at the South Surrey Arena.

The Eagles responded through a power play goal from Jackson Anderson at 1:52, a shorthanded goal from Gavin Rocha at 4:25, and an empty net goal from Sihwan Kim at 18:32 of the third period. Brandon Gill also scored for the Eagles at 9:47.

Dylan Johnson stopped 28 of 31 shots he faced to pick up his first loss since he signed with the Spruce Kings in late December. Aidan Fischer made 35 saves on 26 shots to pick up the win for the Eagles, and the first-star honours on the night.

The Spruce Kings remain near the bottom of the BCHL’s coastal conference with a 10-16-3-1 record, while the Eagles sit fifth at 17-11-3-0.

The Kings are in Chilliwack to play the conference-leading Chiefs (20-7-3-0) at 6:00 p.m. Saturday night. Their next home game is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 10, when the
Alberni Valley Bulldogs visit the Kopar Memorial Arena.
