Prince George biathlete Moira Green wins junior sprint, pursuit races at national trials

PRINCE GEORGE — Make it two wins in two days for Moira Green at the 2025 Biathlon Junior/Youth World Championship trials at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club.

Green won the junior women’s pursuit Sunday (Jan. 5) with a time of 33:12.8. She beat Alexandra Hulshof (34:14.1) and Ema Chlepkova (35:51.0), both from Calgary’s Foothills Nordic Club, who finished in second and third respectively.

The Prince George native also won the junior women’s sprint Saturday with a time of 24:22.2, 18.8 seconds ahead of Hulshof (24:41.0) and 44.9 seconds ahead of Chlepkova (25:07.1).

Isla Cadell finished third in both the youth women’s sprint (19:44.0) Saturday, and the youth women’s pursuit (27:33.0) Sunday. She posted the best times among the six members of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club aged 15 to 18 who were competing in the event.

Over in the junior men’s pursuit Sunday, Liam Simons of Prince George finished in fifth place with a time of 39:37.6. Fellow Caledonia Nordic Ski Club member Liam Sinclair was 18th with a time of 43:28.2.

Simons finished Saturday’s junior men’s sprint in second place with a time of 27:45.8, 8.4 seconds behind Benjamin Brousseau (27:37.4.) Sinclair finished in 19th with a time of 33:22.8.

There were four Caledonia Nordic Ski Club representatives in the youth men’s sprint Saturday with Nathanael Dean the top finisher in 17th place. Ewan Hawes was the top local finisher in the youth men’s pursuit when he crossed the line in 13th place.

The roughly 100 or so athletes that are competing will get a training day Monday before the mass start races on Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The combined results from of the races will determine which biathletes get the chance to represent Canada at the 2025 Junior/Youth World Championships Feb. 26-March 5 in Oestersund, Sweden.
