Year-over-year unemployment rate drops to 5.5% in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE — The year-over-year unemployment rate in Prince George dropped to 5.5 per cent in December, 2024.
That’s down from 6.1 per cent in December 2023. Statistics Canada says 55,200 people were working last month, compared to 53,800 in December 2023.
There was job growth in finance, real estate, insurance, accommodations and food services while there were losses in construction and manufacturing.
The provincial unemployment rate in December was 6 per cent, up from 5.7 per cent in November though the economy saw 14,000 jobs created last month.
