City of Prince George soliciting written feedback ahead of two scheduled budget meetings

PRINCE GEORGE — Residents in Prince George have a few more days to get their written comments to local politicians, who will be deliberating what the City’s next budget could look like

People are able to send in their written comments ahead of a pair of public budget meetings scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20 and Wednesday, Jan. 22. Both meetings will be held inside Council Chambers at Prince George City Hall.

“Commenters are consenting to the disclosure of any personal information provided (including name and address) and understand that all written comments will be published on the City’s website as part of the official public record of the council meeting,” the City said in a statement.

The City is projecting a 6.55 per cent tax increase in 2025, which they say works out to roughly $178.49 for the average home in Prince George. A copy of the proposed 2025 to 2029 Financial and Capital plan will be posted online on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

The City says those documents will also be available at the Service Centre in the first floor of City Hall and the Legislative Services Division on the fifth floor of City Hall as follows:

• January 15, 16, and 17 2025 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
• January 20, 2025 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

“On December 4, the Standing Committee of Finance and Audit heard the results of the budget engagement project. In total, there were 941 responses to the check-up surveys and 930 responses to the budget survey,” the City said, in a post online.

“In the budget survey, residents voted to keep nearly all service levels the same in 2025 with the exception of infrastructure management (5 per cent decrease) and corporate services (5 per cent decrease). Council will consider this feedback when making budget decisions in January.”
