Papineau pair powers Spruce Kings to overtime win

PRINCE GEORGE — Nicolas Papineau scored a pair of goals, including the overtime winner, to lead the Prince George Spruce Kings to a 4-3 win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs Friday (Jan. 10) night.

Papineau’s unassisted marker at 6:27 of overtime at the Kopar Memorial Arena ended a two game losing streak for the Kings, who recorded their first win of 2025.

Brock Cummings opened the scoring for Prince George at 6:44 of the first period, though it was the Bulldogs who went into the intermission up 2-1.

Goals from Brady Anes and Papineau made it a 3-2 game after 40 minutes, before Cole Bishop scored the only goal of the third period to force overtime.

Dylan Johnson made 30 saves on 33 shots to pick up the win for the Kings, while Colin Winn turned aside 37 of 41 shots in a losing effort.

The Kings improved to 11-17-3-1 though they remain near the bottom of the BCHL’s Coastal Conference with 26 points from 32 games. The Bulldogs drop to 19-11-2-0 to sit fourth with 40 points from 32 games.

The two teams will rematch on Saturday at 6:00 pm for Indigenous Night at Kopar Memorial Arena.
