T-Wolves begin second half of Canada West season with defeat in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD B.C. — The UNBC Timberwolves began the second half of the Canada West season with a pair of defeats on the road in Abbotsford Friday (Jan. 10) night.

The women dropped to 3-6 after a 51-40 loss to the 8-3 Cascades, who are one of the top teams in the Pacific Division at 8-3.

Viktoriia Filatova (nine), Amrit Manak (eight) and Sveta Boykova (seven) combined for 24 points for UNBC. Boykova also led the TWolves defensively with six boards. UFV’s Maddy Gobeil led all scorers with 16 points and 15 rebounds.

The UNBC men also dropped a 90-58 decision to the 5-6 Cascades at the UFV Athletic Centre Friday.

The 1-8 TWolves, who only had nine players dressed, were led by Evgeny Baukin, who had a team-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Wesley Ainu’u (11) and Milan Pasquale (10) also had double digit points for the TWolves in the first Canada West start.

The UNBC teams head into Vancouver for a game against the UBC Thunderbirds Saturday afteroon.

Their first home game of 2025 is scheduled for this Thursday, Jan. 16, against the Victoria Vikes.
