TWolves drop pair of games against powerhouse UBC Thunderbirds

VANCOUVER — It wasn’t a happy Saturday (Jan. 11) for the UNBC Timberwolves as they dropped a pair of games to the powerhouse UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver.

The 1-9 UNBC men were beaten 88-59 by the Thunderbirds, who improved to 8-3.

Isaiah Bias led the way for Todd Jordan’s team with career-high 19 points. He also led all players in scoring at the War Memorial Gymnasium. Chris Ainsley finished with 13 points while Evgeny Baukin grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Elsewhere, the 3-7 UNBC women were also beaten 97-47 by the conference leading Thunderbirds, who sit 11-1.

The TWolves were led by Viktoriia Filatova’s 18 points. The second-year star shot three-of-six from deep and was seven-for-12 from the field. Bella Mesquita (9) and Claire Huang (7) also combined for 16 points for UNBC.

The TWolves will play their first home games of 2025 on Thursday (Jan. 16) night against the Victoria Vikes. All of the TWolves wins this season have come at Brownridge Court, with the UNBC women currently on a two-game home winning streak.

The women will get things going at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 8:00 p.m.
