SPOKANE, WASH. — The Prince George Cougars slid into fifth place in the WHL’s Western Conference as they dropped their third consecutive game with 5-2 setback against Spokane Chiefs Friday (Jan. 17) night.

Will McIssac had the Chiefs on the board inside the opening minute at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, before goals from Chase Harrington and Berkly Catton made it a 3-0 game just past the 13-minute mark.

Terik Parascak struck for the Cougars on the power play at 8:34 of the second period to make it a 3-1 game. Parascak beat Chiefs’ goaltender Dawson Cowan five-hole for his 19th goal of the season.

Spokane responded with a power-play marker of their own about three minutes later courtesy Shea Van Olm to end Joshua Ravensbergen’s night in net. The 18-year-old Cougars’ netminder finished with 32 saves on 36 shots in 31:52 of action.

Coco Armstrong then made it 5-1 after he beat Cooper Michaluk shorthanded at 14:34 of the second period. Michaluk finished with seven saves on eight shots.

Koehn Ziemmer scored the only goal of the third period – his 24th of the season – to the give the Cougars a bit of hope, though the Chiefs were able to maintain control to pick up the 5-2 win.

The loss takes the Cougars out of first place in the BC Division, and second in the Western Conference, as the Victoria Royals trounced the Kamloops Blazers 7-1 Friday night. The 24-13-3-2 Cougars have 53 points from 42 games, while the 24-12-3-4 Royals have 55 points from 43 games.

Next up for Cougars is a road game against the WHL-leading Everett Silvertips Saturday night at 6:00 p.m.

Their next home game is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24, against the Brandon Wheat Kings.
