PRINCE GEORGE— A week ago, the Spruce Kings added goaltender Ben Polhill from the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

“The welcome’s been good. The guys have been great, team’s been great, coaches are good and I’m settling into the billets. It’s been really good,” said Polhill on his first week with the team.

This addition brings the Kings roster to three active goalies as Polhill joins Ryder Green and late December acquisition Dylan Johnson who came in following Colin Reay’s season ending injury.

“Coming in late with an injury going down, (they) needed a goalie with obviously only one here. They gave me a great opportunity and I’m just trying do my best to make the most of it and try and win as much as I can for this team,” said Johnson on his opportunity with the Spruce Kings.

Since joining the club, Johnson has a 3-1 record, with a 2.69 goals against average and a 0.910 save percentage.

The three goalie system, brings healthy competition to the team, having to battle each other for every start between the pipes daily.

“It brings a lot of depth between Dylan, Ben and Ryder. It’s going to be a battle on a daily basis for the net and that’s what we want. We have a lot of depth throughout the organization and every other position, so why not in net? I think the three of them will push each other. There’s going to be good days and bad days in that situation for them, but ultimately, I think we’re better off for it,” said Head Coach Brad Tesink on the Kings goalie situation.
