Prince George Figure Skating Club shine at CNC Regional Championships

PRINCE GEORGE— The Prince George Figure Skating Club (PGFSC) travelled to Quesnel this past weekend for the Cariboo North Central Regional Championships. The club thrived collecting 52 podium assessments (13 gold, 31 silver, 8 bronze), as well as nine gold medals, six silver and two bronze.

“We had set a goal this year of trying to raise the level of what the assessments and what our medal count was, and we totally crushed it. The kids did really good, they tried really hard and they were resilient…I was very proud and the other coaches were very proud as well,” said Jennifer Auston, the Director of Skating with the PGFSC.

While the results were great, competing is so much more than the outcome for the skaters.

“Competing in general is really fun for me because it’s a different way of experiencing the ice and it’s just fun to watch all your family members cheer you on as well as your friends,” said PGFSC skater, Brooklyn Charbonneau.

Not only is it fun and exciting for the competitors, but the sport of figure skating plays a big role in growing their athletes off the ice as well.

“I feel like I’ve learned how to project myself better because that’s what I do in the sport, and it’s just (helped me) being able to talk to people better,” said PGFSC skater Violet Freeman Idemilih.

Next up for the club, they have trips to Dawson Creek and Kelowna planned for the Totem Competition and Super Series Final in the coming weeks.
