PRINCE GEORGE— The Pineview Snowfrolics began in 1975. 50 years later the next generation of adults is keeping this local tradition alive.

Sky Thompson, the organizer of the snowshoe volleyball tournament says that her dad used to play in the tournament when she was a kid. Now older she runs part of the event.

Snowshoe volleyball is like normal volleyball where each team has to spike bump and volley their way to the top. Just one catch, they have to do it in snowshoes and minus thirty weather.

“If it’s really cold, that ball is going to be really hard,” adds Sky. “So, you might have some bruises on your after you leave the game. But it’s all fun.”

Bill and Karin Empy are some of the founders of the snowfrolics. They say that they love to see how much has grown out of a small get together.

“We ended up on a property over on Cummings Road. The people on let us use their field to set up snowmobile races. And that was the start,” says Bill Empy.

The Pineview Snowfrolics begin on Saturday, February 1, with snow pitch. Events will take place throughout the week and will end on Sunday, February 9.
