Spruce Kings sign veteran QMJHL goaltender Charles-Edward Gravel

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Spruce Kings have bolstered their crease with the signing of goaltender Charles-Edward Gravel for the rest of the 2024-2025 BCHL season.

Gravel, a six-foot-one, 194-pound right-handed catching netminder from Lévis, Quebec has played in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) for the past five seasons, most recently with the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The 20-year-old has 99 wins and nine shutouts in 211 regular season and playoff games with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, and the Sea Dogs. He also boasts a 3.06 goals against average and a .901 save percentage in the QMJHL.

Gravel has posted a 14-14 record with three shutouts in 28 games with the Sea Dogs this season. He had a 2.82 goals against average and a .914 save percentage before he was released in mid-January.

“Charles-Edward is an elite level veteran goalie,” Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes said, in a release. “We jumped on adding him to our team once the opportunity presented itself. We’re excited to integrate him into the group as we make a strong push the rest of the regular season and into the playoffs.”

Gravel, who has committed to playing for Mercyhurst University next season, with join the Spruce Kings this week ahead of a pair of home games against the Coquitlam Express on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7 and 8.

The Kings are back home at Kopar Memorial Arena after a three game Island road trip that saw that lose 6-1 games to the Victoria Grizzlies on Saturday night and to the Nanaimo Clippers on Wednesday, Jan 29.

They did beat the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 5-2 on Friday night, Jan. 31, and remain in 10th place in the BCHL’s Coastal Conference.
